ZombiU Trailer Brings The Zombie Apocalypse to WiiU

Aside from the actual zombie apocalypse being right around the corner, nothing says “BRAAAAINS…” like a good old fashioned zombie video game. And sweet Georgia Brown, does ZombiU look fantastic. I have to say, the fact that this title is coming out for the WiiU is more startling than the last five minutes of Sleepaway Camp…I mean, it seems to be the exact OPPOSITE of what we’ve learned to expect from Nintendo; (VERY) Adult themed, and killer graphics. Also, from the synopsis, it would appear that you are not tethered to a specific character, but play one until you get infected, then you control a new one…Then you can go and find your old infected character and collect your items from them??? W…T…F…?

Other features of ZombiU are the use of the WiiU’s camera to “zombify” your face, and “realtime” inventory checks, which forces quick decision making on the part of the player…

Could WiiU truly be a competitor? I voiced some doubts in an earlier blog, but if this is the beginning of a new trend for Nintendo, sign me up!…Like, Now.

Granted, on the other side of the coin, this is clearly a rip off of Dead Island (at least the trailer is), but I’m OK with that. Baby steps are cool, if for the greater good. If you’re going to head in a new direction, being influenced by the best is a good place to start…And I’ll be damned if I ever saw a video game trailer better than the Dead Island (and now, maybe, ZombiU) one.

Here is the official synopsis:
Developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, ZombiU puts players in the middle of London circa 2012, where an outbreak has infected the population, destroying their humanity and turning them into mindless monsters preying on the flesh of the few remaining survivors. This fear-fueled first-person shooter takes all the terror, chaos and tension found in the best of the horror genre and adds original interactive elements, including a unique death mechanic that puts players in the body of a different survivor each time they die, allowing them to track and take down their old, infected characters, recover their equipment and see if they can stay alive just a little bit longer this time.
